Impunity and Violence: The Unrelenting Targeting of Awami League Activists Under Yunus's Regim From August 5, targeted violence against Awami League-affiliated citizens, including killings, has not been fully documented due to self-censorship by journalists and rights activists fearing retribution from Yunus's regime and loyalists. Based on media reports, rights groups estimate at least 151 murders between August and December. Family accounts reveal tens of thousands of Awami League leaders and activists across 4,573 unions in all 64 districts faced physical attacks, with their homes and businesses looted and vandalized. Impunity for these killings has fueled an ongoing extrajudicial killing spree, worsening cycles of vengeance and human rights erosion. Examples include: On February 18, 2025, the beheaded body of Bharat Chandra, 50, from Kalikapur village, was found on a rail track. On February 18, Muhammad Hasan, an Awami League youth leader in Raojan, was brutally beaten in public, and left to die. On February 11, the mutilated body of Amzad Hossain, a Youth Front leader in Balla union, was found in a paddy field. On February 12, Abdullah Al Mamun Mondal, a former Awami League student leader, was hacked to death in broad daylight by a group of attackers. No legal action has been taken till today against the attackers of any of these incidents.
