Recently SoFi has filed a proxy statement indicating the board of directors wants the power to reverse split SoFi's stock if necessary, reducing the total number of shares by combining anywhere from 2 to 10 shares in a single more expensive share. This helps prevent SoFi from becoming a penny stock, which many institutional investors have rules against investing in. If SoFi's stock price did drop low enough that hedge funds had to sell, it could potentially completely crash SoFi's stock price.
