Today I will design my very own file system ddosfs. My primary design goal is that it should be as easy as possible to implement in 16bit x86 Assembly. The reason is I want to use it for my own operating system D-DOS. So all the integers are 16 bit and the block size is 512 byte to be compatible with all the low-level BIOS system calls. My file system is going to be based on the SimpleFS by the University of Note Dame, for which I've obtained a license. Their file system is in turn based on the Unix file system UFS but it does not have support for file names or directories so I have added that myself into ddosfs. In this episode we will go through all the design considerations and also describe the Api for the disk emulator that I will build. We will also go through the filesystem Api as well as all data structures and the file system itself. This is a self-contained Ep02 of the series on how to create your own MS-DOS operating system. #filesystem #programming #coders #osdev Become a channel member and get several benefits.
