URK fishing VILLAGE - Former ISLAND in the NETHERLANDS [Ep. 75]

Urk used to be an island in the Zuiderzee before it became the Ijsselmeer. Now it’s completely connected to land, but still retains a feeling of being an island. It had a lighthouse on it to warn the fishing ships coming from Amsterdam and going further out to sea. It has always been a strong fishing town, and still has a beautiful port full of interesting boats. Along with great seafood restaurants close by. It also has a high concentration of churches. The surrounding town is cute, with small houses, narrow alleys, and some nice, rugged beaches. It’s now one of our favourite little seaside towns in the Netherlands.
