Welcome to the field! Join me, Ethan Owen, MSc biology student and turtle ecologist, as I dive (literally) into my research on eastern musk turtles also known as the stinkpot turtle (Sternotherus odoratus) in the spring-fed waters of Central Texas. In this episode, I introduce you to my thesis work exploring how invasive snails might be reshaping turtle diet, behavior, and even head morphology. Why are some turtles growing massive heads? What can that tell us about rapid adaptation and ecological change? Filmed on-site in Texas, this video includes underwater footage, a close-up look at adult and juvenile turtles, and a preview of the fieldwork driving my research. Comment your questions or thoughts below — I'd love to hear what you think or connect with fellow turtle nerds, herpers, or conservationists! #TurtleResearch #StinkpotTurtle #EasternMuskTurtle #TexasWildlife #FieldBiology #Herpetology #MScResearch #TurtleConservation #InvasiveSpecies #EcologyVlog #Morphology #WildlifeResearch #FreshwaterTurtles #ComalSprings #ConservationScience #ScienceCommunication #SciComm #Texasturtles #Texas #sternotherus
