For nearly 18 years, the world record score for the NES version of Double Dragon stood at 470,2200 points. Most players — including myself — never questioned that number. But after years of studying the game through speedruns, no-damage playthroughs, and an unusual challenge called Forehead of Justice (beating the game using only headbutts), I started to see Double Dragon differently. When I began researching how scoring actually works — and how Twin Galaxies defines an official high score — I realized something surprising: The ceiling wasn’t skill. It was perspective. Using modern routing and a deeper understanding of enemy behavior, spawn manipulation, and scoring mechanics, I was able to push the record to 506,910 points, breaking a record that had stood for nearly two decades. This video documents that journey — from infinite point experiments, to the realization that the highest-scoring attack in the game was something most players ignore, to the final record-breaking run. Official submission has been sent to Twin Galaxies for verification. Double Dragon (NES) New High Score: 506,910 Previous Record: 470,220 If you grew up hearing “50,000 points in Double Dragon” from The Wizard… this one’s for you.
