Tim: No but instead she has two long bony blades inside her mouth that she uses to snap and crush prey! In fact, she has one of most powerful bites ever… it's up there with T.Rex Amanda: Oh no! Swim, little turtle, or you'll be Dunk's dinner! Tim: Totally. Or should I say turtle-ly? Amanda: Her mouth is opening wide! Tim: Yes, her gob's twice as big as a great white shark! And she can open it so fast that it actually creates a vacuum… sucking sea creatures inside! Amanda: You mean her mouth opens so wide, so fast, it creates a swirling vortex down her gullet from which there is no ESCAPE!? Tim: Yes, well put! Amanda: I can't watch Tim: Oh no! Amanda: What happened? The turtle got away… so what's got Dunk in a funk? Tim: I think there was some fishing equipment floating in the water and it got sucked into her gaping mouth Amanda: You mean, Dunk's choking?! Should we call the Dino Doc? Tim: No, no I think she's okay… this is actually her way of eating Amanda: Choking on plastic and fishing nets!? Tim: No, of course not… but she swallows things whole and then chucks up anything that doesn't agree with her afterwards Tim: Like bones… tough shells and urgh… was that a hub cap? Amanda: Yuck! Tim: While Dunk clears her throat, let's check in on Tylo Amanda: Looks like she's made it through the kelp forest! She's entering a shallow bay and… oh no! Tim: Tylo's entered a whale nursery! It's one of the things the Great Australian Bight is famous for. Southern Right Whale mothers give birth to calves here and look after them until they're big enough to swim south to Antarctica Amanda: Baby whales? Don't even think about it, Tylo! Tim: The mothers are extremely protective of their young Amanda: It looks like they've spotted Tylo… I mean, she's hard to miss! Tim: We think she would have lurked out of sight before attacking prey… but she's very exposed here… Plus some of these whale mums are bigger than Tylo! Maybe she'll leave them alone Amanda: Tylo doesn't have a swirling vacuum cleaner mouth too, does she? Tim: No… some experts think she uses her head like a battering ram Amanda: Oh much better! Tim: But this idea has been challenged … since she has a lot of nerves in her nose which would have made it very painful to ram into prey Amanda: She's heading for that cute calf near the rock pools! Look out! Sounds: Heavy splash Tim: Phwoar! Amanda: Ouch! A whale mum just whacked Tylo! Tim: Yes, a tail smack is a powerful defence when you're as big as a bus! Amanda: Right on Tylo's sensitive shnoz! Swim it off, buddy! And leave the whale babies alone! Tim: The whales are herding their calves into the shallows and forming a protective barrier around them…. It's like they can sense another threat Amanda: You mean, could it be, the kracken?! Finally!
