In this test I am using a Powersoft X4 power amp to create "wall voltage" and power up a Crest 4801 power amp. Then I test the impact that lower and higher wall AC voltage has on the amp output power. In this video, Dave Rat tests the effects of underpowering the AC voltage to an amplifier while changing the frequency from 60 Hz to 50 Hz. He found that input voltage matters for audio amplifiers, and a decrease in voltage leads to a decrease in power output. At 80 volts, he loses half the power of the amplifier, and at 200 volts, the output is almost three times the amount produced at lower voltages. Low voltage rails can negatively affect sound quality in guitar rigs as they won't feed back and distort at the necessary point. Dave Rat considers additional videos to investigate if amps sound different in Europe, which has a 50-hertz frequency, compared to the US, which has a 60-Hertz frequency. Tests different voltages and their effect on audio amplifiers. At 80 volts, he loses half the power of the amplifier, but that loss is only 3 db, which can make a significant difference in sound quality. When the voltage is increased to 200 volts, the speaker notes a 624-watt output, which is almost three times the amount of watts produced at lower voltages.
