In this video, we take a weekend trip to Whalen Island and stayed at the Whalen Island County Campground. $26 a night, no internet/cell service, no showers, and sand lake is near by, so lots of dune riding and lots of noise especially on the weekend. I went twice and during the week was quiet and peaceful. Despite these factors the hospitality was superb with the Park Host, Rosa, being friendly, professional accommodating and very nice The first time we got a windy spot and she moved us.The park has the natural area behind it so that you can go on the loop and get about a 1.5-2.0 miles walk. Do it twice and you get ok walking for the day. The inlets are phenomenal for kayaking. Very safe for small children with high tides not getting over 4 ft. Good for fishing too. Rosa, confessed to be addicted to fishing and eating flounder. I got none. The weather turned on Sunday so we had to leave, but the one day we had was fantastic. This park is about 2 hrs from Portland.
