The malagueña is a set of many different flamenco styles and melody variations. They are related to folk fandangos and especially the forms called "verdiales" from the small towns in the mountains that surround the city of Málaga, therefore their name. The "Malagueña del Mellizo" performed in this video is not from Málaga but Cádiz. It was created by Enrique Jiménez Fernández (Cádiz, 1 December 1848 – 30 May 1906), also known as Enrique el Mellizo. He inherited the nickname "el mellizo" - the twin - from his father. He is revered as one of the greatest flamenco musicians of all time, and his influence is still felt in the Cádiz flamenco scene. The legend says this malagueña was inspired by the Gregorian chant Enrique listened to in the churches of Cádiz in which he found refuge after a heartbreak. Letra: Hincaito de rodillas A mi Dios me encomendé Qué remedio buscaría Para olvidar yo tu querer Me dijo que no lo había. Translation: Kneeling down I commend myself to God What remedy would he give To forget your love He told me there was none Alfonso Cid - vocals Andreas Arnold - guitar Recorded in Brooklyn, New York on March 9, 2020 #andreasaccompanies #malagueña #cantejondo
