Its location, only about 15 kilometers from the Mediterranean coast, gives it both cultural and strategic importance. One of the most notable aspects of modern-day Figueres is its role as a transport hub. It is connected by road and rail to Barcelona, Girona, and France. The high-speed AVE train links Figueres directly with major Spanish cities and Paris, making it accessible to both domestic and international travelers. Figueres is internationally known as the birthplace of the surrealist artist Salvador Dalí.
