The Royal Fleet Auxiliary ship Lyme Bay has left the Naval Base to undertake training and drills. In answer to GBC Questions, the MoD confirmed it's departure was solely to undertake the drills. A spokesperson said "as part of prudent planning, she is at heightened readiness as a precaution, should she be needed to assist in maritime tasks in the Eastern Mediterranean.” An Australian air force plane flew to the Rock on Saturday and departed that same day. GBC understands it delivered cargo. RFA Lyme Bay was seen being loaded with cargo on Sunday morning ahead of its departure. The vessel is used for transporting troops, ammunition and vehicles, although it can be used to transport civilians or aid. GBC understands she would be used for transportation and medical facility in the event of deployment.
