Concrete spalls, especially unexpected ones, mean that additional work is necessary. Burying a visible spall (or yet to be “found”) without proper prep is asking the coating to hold together something structurally weak. Decorative coatings are made to resist stain or wear and look good while doing each. For the concrete areas that are ready to crumble, products made to fix this condition are the better choice. The video gives a quick overview of treating superficial spalls with a specialized urethane patch. The process begins with prep. This means the removal of all weak materials. The video shows this being done by shot blaster and hammer, but these aren’t the only way to remove a future liability. Once clean, a urethane explicitly made for this purpose is poured into place. After this cures, a hand grinder removes the overfill to a height equal to the surrounding concrete.
