Preventing pests in a commercial cannabis grow operation starts with understanding what kind of potential threats are lurking within the facility. Integrated Pest Management, or IPM, requires specific SOPs and processes - starting with regular tests to determine where the hazards are lurking. We followed PathogenDx into a commercial cannabis operation as they tested for a wide range of contaminants that can impact the health of the overall grow. Milan Patel, the CEO, talks about the importance of education and testing in a successful IPM program. Then, we invite Ron Romano and Jim Harris from SafetyNet to discuss their preventative treatments to help growers reduce the threat of bio-contaminants and technologies available to help maintain personnel decontamination as well. Most importantly, our guests remind growers that these solutions don't have to be expensive and will help the industry self-regulate as the federal legal status shifts in the coming years. 0:00 Start 01:09 Topic Introduction: Why IPM Matters to Growers & Consumers 03:42 Introducing Milan Patel, PathogenDx CEO 09:13 Milan: Tests for Bio-Contaminants & Long-Term Legal Implications for Cannabis Growers 14:54 Milan: Introduction to Real-World Project at a Cannabis Facility 17:12 Milan: Initial Test Results 19:56 Jim: Being Proactive vs. Reactive 21:00 Milan: What's in Your Environment is in Your Plants 23:57 Milan: Tracking Test Results to Find Hot Spots and Leakages 27:28 Jim: Proactive Steps Prevent Compliance Woes 30:39 Ron: Next Steps in Remediating Pathogens 31:18 Ron: Cleaning vs. Decontaminating 34:04 Jim: Necessary Additional Steps in Your SOPs 34:58 Milan: Testing Isn't Expensive 36:55 Ron: Regular Maintenance & the Right Tools are Key 40:07 Ron: Why Would Operators Skip these Steps? 42:10 Jim: Cost of IPM vs. Cost of Pesticides 43:55 Milan: The Reason Regulation Exists 45:00 Milan: Investors will Demand Bio-Security SOPs 47:27 Milan: The Impacts of 280E 48:43 Ron: Next Steps for Decontamination & Remediation 50:38 Jim: Creating a Plan based on the Environmental Tests 51:50 Milan: Cleaning, Disinfecting, and Reducing Bio-Burden 53:35 Milan: HVAC Participation in Pathogen Proliferation 58:15 Jim: It all Begins with Education
