The bear family returned to play on the hammock on this beautiful summer morning. It was still early enough that the world hadn’t quite woken up yet. Most of the sounds you hear are birdsong (including the raucous call of a Pileated woodpecker at :51) and the sounds of the bears foraging and playing. My favorite moments are at :47, 1:03, and 1:54 to around 2:04. :-D I hope those moments make you laugh, too! In this first of many videos from this particular visit, the bear cubs are trying their best to get up into the hammock, but they are getting a little punch-drunk in the process. It's like the bears are saying, "I think I can!" - And then Darryl goes off to adjust the camera, which, unfortunately, was not secured as well as Camera #2 (whose footage I haven't decided whether to post yet - it's just not as crisp and the camera is pretty much on its last legs and keeps having audio burps which I feel compelled to edit out. Like I don't have anything better to do....) Unfortunately, Darryl knocked this camera off-kilter pretty wicked. The rest of this camera's footage from this visit is similarly off-center. Oh well. It still managed to capture most of the rest of the action, though. And since I prefer the image quality of this camera to the other, I'll probably stick with this off-center footage. Thanks for indulging me. (fwiw, I have plenty of better-balanced Hammock Bear footage from this bear family's subsequent visit on July 17 that I will be posting later. Thankfully, that July 17th visit to the hammock happened after I secured this camera a little better. :-) For most of this video, Momma Bear is just out of view. She is busy tearing up fallen logs, looking for grubs. She finally takes a break from foraging and goes over to the hammock. With one warning chuff she lets her cubs know that she is there to play now, too. The upcoming July 3rd Hammock Bear videos will feature the rest of this visit by this same wonderful trio having a lovely, leisurely morning on our mountain.
