A spectator secretly thinks of any number between 10 and 20 and notes the card at that position — completely out of sight. The deck is squared, mixed, cut, and even reduced to a smaller packet. A random “helper card” is introduced to track down the thought-of selection. Despite every fair choice and shuffle, the helper card locates the exact card the spectator merely thought of — matching in an astonishing way. No sleight of hand. No forces. Just pure, self-working mathematical magic. This baffling routine is easy to perform and delivers a powerful, impossible-looking climax every single time. DETAILED ROUTINE OVERVIEW 1. SETUP • Borrow or use a well-shuffled deck. 2. SPECTATOR CHOOSES A SECRET NUMBER + CARD (Performer Turns Away) • Spectator secretly thinks of any number from 10 to 20 (e.g., 16). • Spectator counts down to that number, looks at the card at that position, and remembers it. • Spectator replaces the card back in the same spot. • Spectator squares the packet and puts the counted cards back on top exactly as they were. • Performer turns back around. 3. “I’LL MOVE YOUR CARD TO A BETTER LOCATION” (The Behind-the-Back Moment) • Tell them: “I’m going to move your card to a new location.” • Take the packet behind your back (or under the table). • Secret Action: Move ONE card (the top card) to the bottom. • Bring the packet back out and square it. 4. PROVE THE CARD IS NOT WHERE IT USED TO BE • Ask: “For the first time, what was your secret number?” • They say the number (e.g., 16). • Slowly count down to that position and reveal the card there. • Confirm: “That’s NOT your card, right?” (They confirm.) 5. SPLIT INTO TWO PACKETS (Smaller Packet Will Be Used) • Keep the top portion you just counted to as one packet — BUT Do NOT include the revealed card. • Flip the revealed card face down and set it on top of the remaining portion of the deck as a second packet. • Emphasize: “Your card is more likely to be in the larger packet… but we’ll use the smaller packet to FIND it.” 6. REDUCE THE SMALL PACKET WITH A “STOP” KLONDIKE • Use ONLY the smaller packet. • Perform a Klondike-style dealing action: remove the top-and-bottom cards as a pair, repeatedly, until the spectator says “STOP.” VERY IMPORTANT: Silently COUNT the number of pairs that are Klondike shuffled to the table (we'll call this number N) — you'll need this number for when you deal out the final set of pairs for the Finale. (In the performance, the number of pairs Klondike shuffled to the table was 7.) • The moment they say stop, set aside the remaining (unused) cards. • Square up the Klondike shuffled cards on the table. This is your working packet. VERY IMPORTANT: Your working packet should and NEEDS to have an EVEN number of cards. This is guaranteed to be true as long as you Klondiked complete pairs of cards to the table, and (if necessary) discard any lone (single) card you have at the end after the spectator says "STOP." 7. IDENTIFY THE HELPER CARD (Top Card) • Show the top card of the working packet. • Say: “This is NOT your card — it’s our helper card.” 8. BURY THE HELPER CARD • Perform ONE Monge(Over-Under) shuffle to lose the helper card somewhere in the packet. • Optional Convincer: Do a Charlier shuffle (or two) to further mix the cards. 9. SPECTATOR CUTS (Free Choice) • Hand the packet to the spectator. • They cut anywhere and complete the cut. • Take the packet back and square it. 10. DEAL INTO N PILES (Where N is the Number of Pairs You Counted in Step 6) • Deal the working packet into N piles, one card at a time, left to right. • Each pile will consist of just two cards. • When you finish dealing, pause and say: “We’re done.” 11. REVEAL: THE HELPER CARD “FINDS” THE SELECTION • Locate the helper card among the N dealt out piles (i.e., pairs). • Reveal the identity of the card paired with the helper card. • Ask: “Is this your card?” • Let the spectator confirm that it is.
