Christians have a weird relationship with the Bible. They believe it's the totally perfect, inerrant word of God, but they also seem to think parts of it are dumb. At the very least, a lot of it doesn't fit their theology or their modern sensibilities. Thus they re-tell versions of Bible stories that are drastically different from what the Bible actually says.
