He is the colossal figure in the cultural history of Assam. He is destined to preach 'SANATAN DHARMA' in Assam, India and the contemporary of Sri Chaitanya Mahaprabhu who was the chief proponent of 'Vaishnavism' in Bengal, India in 15th century.Srimanta Sankardeva composed borgeet in the 15th-16th century and used to begin prayer services in various religious institutions associated with 'Ekasaran Namdharma' . Through 'Borgeet' he expressed the religious sentiments and gave a whole new way to the Bhagavatic religious movement he started, Eksarana Nama Dharma and also called Neo-Vaishnavite movement primarily propagating chanting the divine holy name of the Supreme Lord in this age of Kali Yuga.
