Sheila Echos-Smesny Cosplay #1: My 1st Claire costume was a mix of season 1 pieces: a peacock green jacket, floral stomacher, brown skirt, & brown crochet cowl. On a budget & w/ beginner sewing skills, I used curtains & upholstery fabric for the garments, & purchased the crocheted cowl on Etsy. The jacket was made w/ a curtain panel, dyed, & used a JP Ryan’s 18th century jacket pattern w/ only a minor adjustment to length. The upholstery fabric used for the stomacher was a clearance find. The herringbone upholstery fabric in the skirt was also purchased on sale & pleated to mimic Claire’s petticoats. Sheila Echos-Smesny Cosplay #2: Later, additions were made to accessorize this costume, such as the tartan cloak worn midway through season 1. Made for warmer climates in Texas & cutting the cost of screen accurate tartan, I opted for a light wool crepe & only enough lightweight Douglas weathered tartan for the front & hood lining. Made an new stomacher w/ leftover fabric from the peacock green jacket, & tea stained a large square scarf that tucked into the bodice.
