I'm very proud to present a duet with XiaoTong on the very emotional song from Your Lie in April - Kirameki by wacci! XiaoTong is a superb pianist and her videos never fail to impress me. Do check her out: / xiaotongpiano While I don't normally document my arrangement process, this arrangement was the first serious one I'd dont since the recent Animenz Concerto and I wanted to share a little bit on it. Your Lie in April has always held a place in my heart and I've thoroughly enjoyed all of its tracks from something more upbeat like Hikaru Nara to something more sentimental like Orange. Similarly, Kirameki has always been a song which I loved listening to. In April (legit), I reached out to XiaoTong to collaborate on this piece. Arranging this for a duet was admittedly quite challenging because it is a fairly straightforward song and could definitely be played beautifully by a solo pianist. Hence, I took a few liberties in arrangement (which, quite honestly, is what makes arranging so fun). The beginning (0:02) was altered slightly and each of us played a phrase of the popular theme to establish this piece immediately as 'Kirameki'.(Of course, I reharmonized a little on 0:12 just for added depth). I started out (0:24) almost completely faithful to the original to let the beautiful melody sing for itself. After the first chorus, elements of the other YLIA songs were sprinkled in. In 2:03, I let an element of Hikaru Nara play and continually sprinkled it in in the second verse (2:18) as the counter-melody. From the second pre-chorus (2:27) onwards, I began to let the desperation of Kaori and Kousei scream by increasing the intensity. The second chorus (2:50), I introduced Orange as the counter-melody and it, in my opinion, lent itself quite nicely to this piece. The second half of the chorus (3:11) was accompanied by Nanairo Symphony. If you noticed, I was inspired by Animenz's Akuma no Ko (hahahaha). It's a brilliant arrangement technique which I'd not tried implementing. Most of us whom have watched YLIA would know how sad the ending is (3:52). However, we'd also know that it was beautiful how Kousei grew from his encounter with Kaori. He ultimately left in a positive state, signified by my key change (4:12) to Gmajor (from Gb). ---- Arrangement/Transcription requests: email me - xxpianovixx@gmail.com Piano lessons: email me - xxpianovixx@gmail.com Connect with me on Discord: / discord Sheets: in my discord server!
