Built in 1869 as the final resting place for Edmund Dexter, a wealthy whiskey baron, the #DexterMausoleum has become one of #springgrove Cemetery’s “main attractions.” Boasting the only flying buttresses in #Cincinnati, the Dexter Mausoleum has 12 marble catacombs below, where 20 members of the family lay in rest. Above the catacombs is a chapel that was designed to include an elevator, however, this portion of the tomb was never completed. As with any cemetery there are legends and lore that consist of #paranormal happenings, #oddities, and the dead walking the grounds among the living and Spring Grove is no stranger to these rumors. In fact, it is said that two, large white dogs with glowing blue eyes guard the mausoleum and that if you sit on the stairs at or after dusk, you will be greeted by these growling beasts who protect the family within.
