In the week that the Irish language is adopted as one of the official working languages of the European Union, Bláthnaid decries the fact that she is denied her basic linguistic identity at home in Ireland. That is, to speak her native tongue through all aspects of her life. Building on the influence of the heroic Gaelic women of her youth, Bláthnaid presents the harsh reality of a language in turmoil on the traditional day of Nollaig na mBan.
