UMEDA SKY BUILDING / KUCHU TEIEN OBSERVATORY: The 173 meter tall building consists of two towers that are connected with each other by the "Floating Garden Observatory" on the 39th, 40th and rooftop floors. OSAKA CASTLE: The castle is one of Japan's most famous landmarks and played a major role in the unification of Japan during the sixteenth century of the Azuchi–Momoyama period. Osaka Castle (Ōsakajō) is a modern recreation of a 16th-century fortress, rebuilt in 1931 and fully restored in 1997. The castle houses a museum, features an observation deck and is surrounded by the vast Osaka Castle Park. The castle's grounds, which include impressive moats, turrets and gates, are freely accessible. HOKOKU-JINJA SHRINE / TOYOTOMI HIDEYOSHI : Hokoku-jinja was built in 1879 on the order of Meiji Emperor to honor Toyotomi Hideyoshi (1537 - 1598) a famous warlord and one of the three unifiers of Japan. Two other dear members of Hideyoshi’s family are also enshrined here. Toyotomi Hidenaga (1540 - 1591), his half-brother and right-hand man and Toyotomi Hideyori (1593 - 1615), his heir and last reigning member of the Toyotomi clan, killed at 21 years old by Ieyasu Tokugawa. This shrine is located on the south side of the main enclosure in Osaka Castle Park and is known for praying for good luck in life. It was originally built edict at Yamazaki-no-hana, Nakanoshima (currently the location of the Central Public Hall), as an annex to Toyokuni Shrine in Kyoto. After that, it was moved to near the Nakanoshima Library and then moved to its current location in 1961. MINAMI (NAMBA / SHINSAIBASHI): Minami is the southern downtown district of Osaka, comprising the vibrant areas of Namba and Shinsaibashi and is known for its extensive shopping, dining and nightlife. Key attractions include the covered Shinsaibashi-suji shopping arcade, the neon-lit entertainment of Dotonbori and major transportation hubs like Namba Station.
