The Torah Factory: How a Torah is made

This hands-on workshop is about the ancient art of biblical calligraphy and scroll making, Skilled craftsmen show the participants how to make klaf (parchment), from raw hides, learn how to whittle a goose feathers into a quills, and mix basic ingredients like carbon and tree sap into kosher Torah ink. Students then have the thrill of writing the ancient Hebrew letters with their own quills - on the hand-made parchment, creating their own take-home souvenirs. Children also have a chance to obtain a letter in a real Sefer Torah which when completed will be installed at the Western Wall Synagogue in Jerusalem.
