Marcin Bużański on the Trump effect: How emotion, not strategy, drove the diplomatic crisis

According to Marcin Bużański, the Director of the Center for Diplomacy and Negotiation at Collegium Civitas, the U.S.–Poland dispute escalated quickly because emotions, especially regarding Trump, overtook what should have been quiet diplomacy. He argues that both sides overreacted publicly, calling it a case of “Twitter diplomacy” that should never have gone that far. Bużański says Poland’s internal political fights made things worse, with different camps using the moment to score points instead of protecting a key alliance. He stresses that, despite the noise, Poland and the U.S. remain close partners in defense, investment, and security, and neither country wants a real fallout. In short, this should cool off soon, but it’s a warning sign that domestic politics can easily spill into foreign policy if leaders aren’t careful.
