Can a Magnetic Drill work on Wood? 🧐 | DIY Custom Vacuum Base for Vevor & Karcher WD3 In this video, I’m hacking my Vevor Mag Drill by building a custom vacuum base that allows it to grip wood surfaces with incredible force. Using a simple Karcher WD3 shop vac and some clever engineering, I’ve transformed this metalworking beast into a precision tool for woodworking, specifically for drilling perfect MFT-style holes without any clamps. Technical Specs & Build Details (Metric & Imperial): To make this system work reliably, I had to get creative with common materials to ensure both safety and efficiency: Vacuum Control: I installed a 1" ball valve to "break" the vacuum. This allows me to move the jig instantly without turning off the Karcher WD3, and more importantly, it provides essential airflow to keep the vacuum motor cool during operation. The Gasket: For a perfect airtight seal, I used a custom-cut piece of linoleum. The Adhesive: To bond the linoleum to the MDF base, I used shoe sole adhesive (contact cement), ensuring a flexible and durable bond that won't peel under constant suction. The Steel Core: Since I used what was available in the shop, I stacked two 8 mm (5/16") steel flat bars for a total thickness of 16 mm (5/8"). This provides a massive metal base for the magnet to engage with maximum force. Structure: The base consists of two layers of 18 mm (3/4") MDF and one layer of 10 mm (3/8") MDF. Dimensions: Total footprint is 350 x 180 mm (approx. 14" x 7") with a custom recess of 176 x 84 mm (approx. 7" x 3 5/16") for the drill. Why this project?
