Tomtain is the easiest, most accessible of the Kilsyth Hills if you take the short climb from the car park on the Tak ma doon Road. However, I take a much more scenic and enjoyable route which follows an old Drove Trail from the North End of Kilsyth near Allanfauld Farm. Climbing steadily, the walk runs parallel to the Garrell Glen before cutting off North East with some more incline to reach the Chapmen's Graves. At this point, I leave the Drove Trail for the last wee push to the summit of Tomtain and my target for the day, where I enjoyed some Spring sunshine and a wee bite to eat. Retracing my steps along the Drove Trail, I remembered about something I was meaning to check out on my next venture in this area, a place that was my playground as a young lad. I had heard of a face that was carved into the rocks at the entrance to a Cave in the Garrell Glen in an area known locally as the First Glen, a couple of hundred meters beyond the gate at the Allanfauld Bridge. The cave is marked on the OS Maps at Grid Ref: NS 71619 78945. Music Rainy Sunday - The 126ers • Rainy Sundays Innocence - The 126ers • The 126ers - Innocence Wide Awake - The 126ers • Wide Awake
