The episode also includes visual material from the Facebook archive “Historic Ethiopia Through The Camera Lens: 1860s – 1990s,” offering glimpses of the people, places, and moods of the time. It touches on the vibrant cultural life of Addis Ababa in the 1960s–70s, and how, after the 1974 revolution, the Derg regime brought an end to much of the nightlife and artistic freedom. Many musicians fled, and Ethio-jazz went underground, surviving through memory, exile, and revival decades later. This episode is not a full history, but an invitation to listen closely to voices and sounds that remain vital parts of Ethiopia’s rich musical heritage.
