Has been done before, so I had a go at it with scope and formulas … ↓↓↓ Complete description, time index and links below ↓↓↓ WARNING: This video involves AC mains, which can cause serious injury or death! Do not try to recreate anything shown in this video unless you are qualified. And no, you won’t see a capacitive dropper in this video, because I would be compelled to use a proper X2 type, and that’s overkill for a 2mA LED. I pick up where bigclivedotcom left off with a resistor and full bridge rectifier (link below). I end up with two resistors (he did advise that in his video), a bridge rectifier (like him), a low voltage (!) electrolytic capacitor and a 100%, well 94% (110mVpp ripple left) flicker free LED. Oh, and there’s an optional Zener diode. 00:00 Intro – picking up where bigclive left off 01:20 Take 1 – resistors and full bridge rectifier 07:13 Take 2 – capacitor added for filtering 11:34 Wrap-up – I’m happy (maybe add a Zener diode for protection) Tutorials • Tutorials Small Project: AC Mains Isolation Transformer from Two Broken UPSs (1/2) • Small Project: AC Mains Isolation Transfor...
