On the occasion of the Open Science workshop which took place at the 1st Berlin Symposium "Exploring the digital future" (October 2011, 25th-28th), Prof. Dr. Oliver Gassmann (director of the Institute for Technology Management of the University of St. Gallen and Chairman of the HSG Research Committee) is being interviewed by one of the founding directors of the Alexander von Humboldt Institute for Internet and Society Prof. Dr. Dr. Thomas Schildhauer (computer scientist, marketing expert and internet researcher) to explicate his top research questions. (full length: 06:24) First Oliver Gassmann points out the high relevance open innovation has gained in the past decade and provides his terminology of open science and open access. He emphasizes the challenges emerged from the discussion about/on intellectual property respectively sharing knowledge on internet-based platforms. In this context he also assumes the issue of the limits of crowdsourcing. Being asked to name his expectations regarding the Alexander von Humboldt Institute of Internet and Society top research questions he mentions the fact that the acceptance within the research community towards the open science approach is still lacking as an eligible main focus in Prof. Dr. Dr. Thomas Schildhauer's internet-based innovation and economy research field. The workshop was based on a discussion paper written by Oliver Gassmann, Bastian Widenmayer and Sascha Friesike which is still available for download (www.hiig.de).
