A combination of two shorter trails in Finke Gorge National Park, the 7km Mpaara and Kalarranga Walks explore the stunningly rugged landscape of the Finke Gorge area. Heading in a clockwise direction, the trail initially heads up along the Finke River, passing by a stand of Red Cabbage Palms - the only palm that grows in central Australia. Leaving the river, the trail heads along an old dreaming story as it rises up through a valley to a spectacular view of the Amphitheatre before completing the loop through the Amphitheatre itself. Heading up to a lookout point, the shorter Kalarranga Walk offers different and equally spectacular views of the Amphitheatre's formations. Accessible only by high clearance four wheel drive, Mpaara and Kalarranga are worth the effort to get out to.
