Welcome to my review of the Prism Shooter [プリズムシューター] from Choshinsei Flashman [超新星フラッシュマン]! By the time 1986 rolled around Sentai toylines were pretty much set in their ways. You had a Henshin Brace ( • Choshinsei Flashman Prism Flash 超新星フラッシュマン... ) a DX Chogokin Mecha ( • Choshinsei Flashman Chogokin Flashking フラッ... ), a Carrier Mecha, a Secondary Mecha, Chogokin Figures, and various other little toys. Outside of losing the Chogokin Figures after Kakuranger, the basics of the Sentai toyline have gone on pretty much remained unchanged over the years. The only thing that has fluxuated over the years is how the Sidearm set is done... The Prism Shooter Set comes with the Prism Shooter, Holster, Belt, and pin emblem. The Prism Shooter clips inside the holster which then attaches to the belt with velcro (!). This is a pretty unusual set-up, but it makes sense when you explore what this toy is really about. The Prism Shooter can either attach to the holster as a weapon or the holster can unfold to become a shield for when the Prism Shooter is used as a sword. As I mentioned before, the sidearm sets have kinda fallen to the wayside over time. Until about ten years ago these sets were a costume in a box to the imaginative youngster. Once you got into the recent shows like Gokaiger that sold the belt seperately...it was all over. Sure there were the gift sets that combined them...but they really shouldn't have done it that way. I really can't complain too much about this toy. Despite being almost 30 years old this year it has held up remarkably well. Very good quality plastic and construction. The only issue I have with mine is that the blade likes to slide out on it's own. Kinda annoying, but nothing critical. Since it doesn't have electronics, there are no electronics to break...which is also a plus. This toy marks the end of the basic and brilliant line of Sentai sidearm sets. As you will see next time, the Laser Magnum from Maskman is the first to bring in some new changes.
