A dense forest covering 4,400 square feet with 120 native tree and shrub species has flourished in just 13 months—yet it looks like it’s been growing for over a decade! This magical forest in Mirsarai, Chattogram, is Bangladesh’s first large-scale Miyawaki forest—developed using a Japanese technique that grows trees 10x faster and absorbs 30x more carbon dioxide than conventional forests. Born out of concern for rapid urbanization and ecological destruction, this initiative—named Project Sonapahar—was led by Delowar Jahan and Amzad Hossain, who turned a barren, smoke-filled hill into a thriving ecosystem. Inspired by Japanese botanist Dr. Akira Miyawaki’s method from the 1970s, this technique uses native species and organic soil preparations to grow sustainable mini-forests even in small, damaged plots. Trees are planted closely in four vertical layers—shrub, sub-tree, tree, and canopy—and require only 2–3 years of care before becoming self-sustaining. While some environmentalists argue that Miyawaki forests can’t fully replace natural biodiversity-rich ecosystems, they agree this method is highly effective for urban greening, ecological restoration, and carbon absorption. In a world gasping for green, Miyawaki forests may just be the silent revolution we need. ১৩ মাসে বেড়ে ওঠেছে আস্ত গহীন বন! #MiyawakiForest #GreenRevolution #UrbanForests #EcoRestoration #ClimateAction #BangladeshNature #ChattogramGreen #MirsaraiForest #ProjectSonapahar #MiyawakiMethod #SustainableBangladesh #ForestationSuccess #13MonthForest #EverythingGreen #মিয়াওয়াকিবন #চট্টগ্রাম #পরিবেশ_বাঁচাও #thepress #thepressnews #thepressnewsupdate Subscribe to The Press ► Like & Follow The Press on Facebook ► Follow The Press on X/Twitter ► At The Press, our vision is clear: to reach every corner of the world with news that matters.
