@IRBBarcelona has launched Spain’s first fully integrated Spatial Omics Platform, a groundbreaking infrastructure that allows scientists to study gene and protein activity directly within intact tissues, preserving the natural spatial context of cells. With an investment of over €3 million, this end-to-end platform combines spatial transcriptomics, spatial proteomics, advanced microscopy, histopathology, image analysis, and bioinformatics into a single coordinated workflow. By uniting five specialised Core Facilities, IRB Barcelona offers researchers a seamless pipeline from sample preparation to data interpretation. 🧬 What is spatial omics? Spatial omics technologies make it possible to see what cells do, where they are, and how they interact within tissues. Just as a city can only be understood by looking at how its neighbourhoods connect, biology can only be fully understood by preserving cellular context. Spatial biology is transforming research in cancer, neurological disorders, cardiovascular disease, immune dysfunction, ageing, and development. This new platform positions IRB Barcelona as a national and international reference hub for spatial biology, strengthening the Spanish research ecosystem and accelerating progress toward precision medicine. The Spatial Omics Platform builds on @IRBBarcelona's long-standing legacy of technological innovation, from pioneering genomic microarrays and pico profiling to introducing light-sheet microscopy and advanced proteomics in Spain. Supported by Spanish and Catalan governments, Next Generation EU funds, @contraelcancer, @FundlaCaixa, and @FundacionBBVA, this platform is open to academic, clinical, and industry partners. 🔬 Seeing biology in place is redefining how we understand life and disease. #SpatialOmics #SpatialBiology #IRBBarcelona #BiomedicalResearch #PrecisionMedicine #CancerResearch #Omics #LifeSciences #ScientificInnovation #ResearchInfrastructure #Bioinformatics
