Freetrade investing platform: Like Trading 212, trades are commission free on this UK based online platform, who are looking to expand into Europe and beyond! First of all, you can get started with just £2, I’m sure you can find £2 in between the cushions on your sofa, so get started. The interface is super clean, really easy to use, and I think it’s a lot better for beginners and easier to navigate. I go over: How to buy shares Add shares to watch list Deposit money Tracking your performance (use time weighted rate of return) The cost and charges – it often tells you how much you’d pay and for what, nice breakdown, however it doesn’t tell you much about the company, just the share price over time, but that shouldn’t be the only indicator for you when deciding what to buy. So as you can see, a lot simpler than Trading 212 and it was actually crowned as the best online trading platform in the British Bank Awards in 2020, so goes to show it is a good little app. You'll pay 0.5% stamp duty of the value of the purchase (but not the sale) of UK stocks – the ones on the likes of The London stock exchange – like Greencoat UK. Some stocks aren’t available unless you buy the PLUS version; for £9.99 a month you get access to more stocks, you earn 3% interest on the cash that you’re holding in your account and you’re able to set the price you want to pay with limit orders and protect against loss with stop loss. So some good extra perks if you’re into that, but bear in mind the initial cost of £9.99 a month. They are adding more and more stocks as we talk but it still may not have the ones you want. One thing to note is though, as easy as it is to use, when it comes to buying stocks that are not in Pounds, FreeTrade does charge you 0.45% of the base FX rate on each US order placed. That basically means your exchange rate is worse than you think, although it doesn’t break it down for you when you buy a share.. The customer service is great as well, you chat to real people through the app, they’re very responsive and active on their socials, so that’s very handy! I think because they are trying to grow and expand, customer service and good rep is key for them, whereas T212 is established and bit better known, they don’t care as much? I don’t know, let’s move on So, to summarise, it’s a great, easy to use app, great aesthetic user interface and it is growing rapidly, proven by their 2020 crowdfunding where they raised £7m, with £5m of that in day one, so I do believe it has a great future. It has its pros and cons, just like any other app, but I think it is good for beginners. It may not offer a demo account, but seeing you can get a free share from me and start with as little as £2, why not give it a go!
