In this video, C. Vision Productions takes you back to the early 1990s to experience the sights and sounds of Burlington Northern’s rebuilt E9 diesels. With rumors of a mass retirement in the air, videographer Dan Hadley traveled to Chicago to document these classic machines before they were pulled from service. In addition to ground shots, this program features a cab ride aboard BN 9914 from Chicago Union Station to Aurora, Illinois, and back. You’ll see firsthand what it was like to operate an E9 on a tightly scheduled commuter run along Burlington Northern’s “Racetrack”. The locomotives were right at home on these former Chicago, Burlington & Quincy rails, as the entire fleet’s heritage can be traced back to the CB&Q. Through a successful partnership between Burlington Northern, Metra, and the West Suburban Mass Transit District (owner of the E9s), reliable passenger service was provided for thousands of Chicagoland commuters, day in, and day out.
