According to the information indicated by the archive documents, these lands were the lands where the Azerbaijani people lived for years. The fact that all place names in the region were Turkish until a certain time supports this. So much so that until the mid-19th century, there was not a single church in Yerevan, the current capital of Armenia. In addition, there were 8 mosques in the city. After Tsarist Russia, the USSR also played an important role in the planned transfer of these lands to the Armenians. In the 20th century, Armenians, who received the support of Russia, pursued a systematic policy of de-Turkification. Schools providing education in Azerbaijani Turkish were completely eliminated. The cadres that ensured the participation of Azerbaijani Turks in social and political life in Yerevan were dismissed from their posts and Armenians were appointed in their places. The Azerbaijani language departments of the Yerevan Pedagogical Institute were closed. Approximately 100 thousand Azerbaijani Turks were forcibly removed from their historical and ethnic lands, especially from Yerevan and its surroundings. Azerbaijani President Ilham Aliyev, who has recently brought this issue to the agenda, emphasizes that these lands are the lands of their ancestors and that determination should be shown for peaceful return.
