Allegany 18 Challenge - North Country Trail (Trail 9) The North Country Trail (NCT) is one of the longer Allegany 18 Challenge hikes. The North Country Trail (NCT) runs north to south the length of Allegany State Park. The portion of the trail in the part is actually the Conservation Trail, part of the Finger Lakes Trail which is part of the larger North Country Trail system. The golden marker for the Allegany 18 Challenge is on the southern section where the Willis Creek Lean-To is located. There is a secondary marker near the Stony Brook Lean-To. ---- The Allegany 18 is a collection of the 18 original hiking trails in Allegany State Park, totaling 70 miles. This program began on June 22, 2018 and we have had a great response on this challenge. Individual packets are available for $20.00 (includes tax) at the Red House Rental Office (located in the Red House Administration Building) and the Quaker Rental Office. Each packet includes 19 maps with interesting information about each trail and a pencil to etch golden trail markers (located on each trail). You can etch on your map, on a blank paper and or just take a selfie with the marker. Once you have hiked all 18, return the completed etchings to the Red House Rental Office or bring them to a Naturalist to receive your custom Allegany 18 water bottle and sticker. All proceeds go to the Environmental Education Department to further develop this program and others like it.
