Change management is a fantastic contribution to organizations. But given the complex world that we live in, most of our changes that are really challenging are now transformational. They are no longer just developmental or transitional, where Change Management thrives. Change Management, when applied to transformation, is useful but partial. It’s insufficient. To grow this field, we need to open it to a wider world-view, where we begin to talk about leaders and how we develop them. We need to help them to understand their mindsets and how they’re mindsets are actually causative to how they interpret the world and make decisions, plan for change, sponsor change, launch change, etc. We also need to address culture and the interior aspects of human dynamics. Not just what we do, but how we “be”. If we want to stay abreast of the challenges our leaders are facing, we need to expand our world view to the cutting edge of leader development. We need to elevate our impact to directly serve the C-Suite and partner with them.
