Introduction to Luke

Luke was the only Gentile to write a book in the New Testament. He wrote both Luke and Acts. Paul calls him "the beloved doctor" and we know that Luke was with Paul for a very significant part of his missionary journeys. Luke put together an orderly account for "most excellent Theophilus," someone who we don't know his background. The Gospel of Luke was written for a very specific purpose, and many of the parables and stories of Jesus are only recorded in Luke. He gives a lot of emphasis on the poor, women, and the Holy Spirit.
