All right, John with etrailer. Adding trailer wiring to your Toyota is easier than you think. Today, we're gonna be taking a look at Curt's 4-pole trailer wiring kit that we've installed on our 2022 Toyota Sienna. Now, 4-pole trailer wiring is gonna give you the basic lighting functions that you need to stay safe and legal out there on the road. You're gonna have left turn, right turn, tail lights and brake lights, and it's gonna look like this. And this is one of the most common connectors out there for light duty towing and lighting. Included in the kit, you're gonna have this little dust cover right here, and this entire unit actually can live inside of the minivan. All of the connections and hookups occur inside over here on the left side panel. And when you're not towing, you can simply place this in the back luggage compartment of the van, and it'll stay out of the elements and clean until you're ready to use it again. Now, as far as installation goes of the trailer wiring kit, it's really not too bad. Everything that we do is gonna take place right in here. You don't even need a whole lot of room. You wanna see how we did it on our van today, stick around. Now, to begin our installation, we're gonna open the back hatch and we've got our seats kicked forward so we have this whole area open down here. Reason being, we need to remove our scuff panel. And in order to do that, we're gonna need a 10 millimeter socket and we're gonna remove the two bolts here. (wrench cranks) Now, once you get the two bolts removed, you can just lift down and we're gonna lift straight up on the scuff panel (brackets click) and we can set this off to the side. Now, in order to get behind our side panel here, we're gonna need to remove this push pin. The best thing that I've found so far is a pair of vice grips, and you wanna be gentle. You don't wanna scar this plastic up, but this is gonna be a push pin fastener. We're gonna grab the outside of this and pull out. So, I'm just gonna grab it and I'm just gonna pull out on the pliers here and then that'll release. Now we can take our trim panel removal tool, and starting down here at the bottom, we're just gonna start popping these push panels and work our way up. Some of these we're already popped. We'll replace those. We do need, we're gonna have a 10 millimeter bolt right here we need to remove. That is for this right here. We can just loosen this up. (tools click) We'll get this out of the way. That way we'll be able to pop our panel out. Be careful it doesn't have to come out too far. Basically, what we're looking for is our trailer wiring harness. It's gonna be right here. It may be tucked down in here and taped up, but this is the harness. This is what it looks like. This is gonna have all of our functions right here. You're gonna have power, ground, left turn, right turn and stop. So, all of our connections are gonna be done right here. I'm gonna carefully use my razor knife here, and we're gonna cut back on this factory wire loom so we can access these wires. (tools clank) (wires rip) Okay, this is gonna be everything we need. This is power, ground, left and right turn and tail light. Now, when it comes to hooking up the module, you're gonna have the color coding right here on the front of it, and it really is as easy as just matching up your colors. You're going to have the four-way flat wiring that we're just gonna put off to the side right here. Everything else is gonna be labeled right here. The kit is gonna come with Scotchloks, and we just don't like to use these too much. I see a high failure rate with these. Sometimes, the wire differences in diameter can cause these to have a little bit of resistance in them or they'll break the wires. So, today, we're gonna be using just standard butt connectors, and you can source some if you need to, if you don't want to use the Scotchloks. I'm gonna start by cutting the ground. And with a connector like this, you never wanna cut directly at the connector just in case you want to use it later. So, we're gonna come up a little bit. We'll snip our ground, and I recommend doing this one wire at a time. Keep in mind that this feed is coming from the car, and so, the 12 volt positive is gonna be hot. So, when you snip the 12 volt positive, which is gonna be the black wire, make sure you don't let that touch a
