Passiveflow | Rethinking Thermal Comfort Without Air Conditioning

This video explores the idea behind Passiveflow — a passive thermal comfort system developed through the collaboration of architecture and engineering. What began as a resort project in Wayanad evolved into a deeper study of sustainability, focusing on embodied energy, life-cycle energy, and the need to reduce dependence on air conditioning. Through research, simulations, and on-site implementation, the team explored the Earth Tunnel (Earth–Air Heat Exchanger) system as a passive alternative for achieving indoor thermal comfort. By combining heat-transfer calculations, CFD simulations, and architectural design, the system cools incoming air using stable underground temperatures, significantly reducing energy consumption while maintaining comfort across seasons.
