When Ren Jian Magazine started in 1985, its publishers were unaware that they would cover the beginning of the end of martial law. Although the magazine would run for only four years, the magazine’s photographs and articles covered stories in Taiwan and around the world at a time of significant change. In this episode of Zoom In Zoom Out, curators Su Ying-lung and Michel Frizot tell Isabel Wang the historical meaning of the photos and why, three decades after the magazine stopped printing, it remains an important piece of Taiwan’s history.
