I wrote this song when I was 16 years old. I was in a secret heavy battle with myself, and it was a very dark time. I had an eating disorder that nearly took my voice, & my life. I made this song “Deadly Beauty” about someone else’s “story” but in truth it was a way of masking my own truth, while subtly making it known. It took all the courage I had to share this song, but I’m so glad I did. It connected me to others who were suffering, & brought about healing through awareness in the song’s message. There was a time I would’ve rather been beautiful than alive, and after being in recovery for over ten years I’m happy to say that now I’m happy to be alive, and I choose to think, and live beautifully. I revisit this song sometimes as a way to connect with my younger self. She was in a lot of pain, and I feel by sharing “deadly beauty” I can give that pain purpose.
