In this video I dive deep into how I use the Antelope Orion Studio Rev. 17 Interface with the SSL SiX Recording and Mixing Console. I use the SSL SiX as a summing console for all of my mixes & I use it to record vocals, drums, guitars and more with the on-board Superanalogue Preamps. The Orion Studio has two DB25 line outputs which I use to send signal to the SSL SiX. The SiX only utilizes 1/4" TRS cables so a DB25 to 1/4" TRS cable must be used. I create four stereo sub-mixes within Pro Tools which occupy all 8 channels of the SSL SiX. I've had my sub-mixes set up as the following: All Vocals (Stereo) - All Drums (Stereo) - All Instruments (Stereo) - All FX (Stereo). I've also had them set up as: Kick, Snare, Bass (Mono) - Lead Vocals (Mono) - All Remaining Drums + Background Vocals (Stereo) - All Instruments (Stereo) - All FX (Stereo). Any SSL SiX output must be inserted into the Orion via a 1/4" TRS to ensure you bypass the Orion Studio's on-board preamps. I then dive into how to navigate the Orion Studio's Routing Matrix. The TB Play (Thunderbolt Play) and USB Play are what your DAW see's as the Orion's available outputs. Whereas TB Rec or USB Rec is what your DAW see's as the Orion's available inputs. The Play and Rec hub can be manipulated by dragging and dropping different inputs and outputs to and from the Orion into these hubs, allowing for endless and extremely flexible routing setups.
