Napoleon: Total War 1vs1: Cemaat Janissaries vs Bashi-Bazouks Nation: Ottoman Empire vs Ottoman Empire AI Strength: normal Cemaat Janissaries are some of the only melee infantry in Napoleon: Total War. This makes them vulnerable at range since they have no way to retaliate immediately to musket or artillery fire. At close range, however, they are very deadly, and they can take on and win against most units if they can close the gap without suffering too many casualties. Their melee attack is over twice the value of default line infantry, even outclassing the best elite infantry, and they can beat practically any unit in a melee fight with stamina and numbers being equal. They are quite cheap to field, too. However if they suffer heavy casualties while closing in on their targets before they have an opportunity to use their swords, their potential is largely squandered. Despite having among the best melee statistics of all infantry, Cemaat Janissaries fare badly against cavalry charges. Bayonet and firearm equipped troops can be placed close to them to ward off cavalry threats. While being weak in defense against cavalry, cemaat janissaries can do well if attacking stationary cavalry, particularly if they have a stamina advantage. Compared to the Ottoman Empire's other melee infantry, the Bashi-Bazouks, Cemaat Janissaries are twice as expensive, but have 33% more men per regiment, with better melee and defence statistics (though their morale is somewhat poorer). However, they tire more easily than bashi-bazouks, and are at their most effective when running over short distances only. In addition, they march in tight formations, making them more vulnerable to enemy fire. Despite being much more expensive than bashi-bazouks, Cemaat Janissaries are still considerably cheaper than line infantry, and can be very cost effective. Their very low cost means that adding experience to them in multiplayer is both cheap and very deadly for their targets. Along with Cemaat Janissaries, Bashi-Bazouks are some of the only dedicated melee infantry in Napoleon: Total War. Compared to Cemaat Janissaries, Bashi-Bazouks have fewer men per regiment (only 75% of a cemaat janissary regiment) and poorer stats; however, they are much cheaper (being even cheaper than any militia the Ottoman Empire fields), have better stealth capabilities, and have good stamina. These traits mean that, despite their inferior numbers per regiment, Bashi-Bazouks can handle themselves very well against larger regiments--particularly if they can close the distance with their foes without suffering too many casualties. This can be easier said than done, particularly given the already low numbers of men per regiment. However, Bashi-Bazouks have superb stealth capabilities that are on equal footing with that of irregular troops, making them excellent for ambushing enemy forces: used wisely, they can close into melee range before their opponents can properly react. While fresh Cemaat Janissaries handle themselves better in melee fights, Bashi-Bazouks can more effectively tackle multiple targets thanks to their better stamina. Despite their extremely cheap cost and low numbers, bashi-bazouks still have superior melee stats compared to most other units and can take out targets that are much more expensive than them. As increasing experience in custom battles has its cost based on the base price of a unit, adding experience to bashi-bazouks is extremely cheap and can dramatically improve their performance. Even if they only distract fire or inflict light casualties before routing, bashi-bazouks' low price means that they are very expendable. While their melee stats are excellent, bashi-bazouks still suffer in combat against most cavalry, particularly if charged from the flanks or rear. Even under ideal situations, where they are well-rested and don't suffer being charged first, they fare extremely poorly against cavalry. They are somewhat more resistant to artillery fire than most other infantry due to their loose formation, but they are still hapless against them outside of melee range and are served well if put behind shelter when attacked by artillery. Like most Ottoman troops, Bashi-Bazouks are resistant to heat fatigue, granting them immunity from heat attrition, and also a stamina advantage on desert maps. ___________________________________________________________________________________________________ My Discord channel: / discord #TotalWar1vs1 #TotalWar #Napoleon
