Smoked By the Locals Once Again

Just wrapped up round 2 of the US Hard Enduro season in Kauai for the Garden Island Hard Enduro. Was an epic trip once again! Sure was glad to have some additional help from Spencer with the ridiculous amount of pressure washing that had to be done. Prologue went pretty well, was just a little too patient and just hitting my marks. I knew the main race was gonna be a long pull and my goal was to finish on the podium. I was making sure to conserve all the energy I could and was trying to be patient early in the race. Right off the bat on loop 2 they sent us up '5 Minute Hill' which was absolutely ridiculous in those conditions. I think only the top 6 made it out of there with little to no help from other riders. Matt Green and I teamed up some to get our bikes out of the final camber. Kana and Ryder Guest blew their crank seals there and the top section of the track had a ton of white smoke. I nearly called it quits there on the track because it wasn't racing in my mind. I'm glad I stuck through it though because I got to see so many epic parts of the course out there. Sucks for all the guys behind us who couldn't get up the ruined part of the track and never got to see the good stuff they have to offer there. I kept plugging away and passed Hart on a nasty hill climb and could hear Matt Green just ahead of me. I felt like I was reeling him in as well until I cooked my clutch and the smallest hills became borderline impossible. I had to forfeit deep into the race because I didn't think I was going to make it to the next check. Hart was able to get back by me and made that next checkpoint which solidified me in 5th. I'm already fired up again to try and redeem myself again for next year.
