#alligatorsnappingturtle #pond #turtle It’s been 8 months since Chief Brody the alligator snapping turtle came into our lives and it’s been quite a ride. He’s now living a natural life in a large outdoor pond here at Garden State Tortoise, but like anything manmade, there is of course maintenance involved. Brody’s 5 foot deep pond is looking gross. It’s filled with green, algae infested water and there’s no visibility. At times, we have no idea where he is in there! It’s time for a water change and a health check but cleaning this thing isn’t as straight forward as one might think. We have to be careful to not completely destroy the biology of this titan’s pond because some of this “mess” in the water is actually good…. Want to support Garden State Tortoise?
