The Temporal Displacement Orchestra (TDO) is a collective of artists and educators committed to exploring the possibilities of collaborative music-making across time and space. To create this virtual premiere of “In C-Dorian”, TDO Artistic Director Seth Adams recorded a click track with conductor voice cues, followed by tubist Aaron Himes (the only person to record without hearing any other musicians). Seth elected to double Aaron’s tuba part on fretless bass guitar rather than branch off to choose his own path on this choice-driven piece. Angel Subero followed suit on bass trombone, tripling the part and creating a broad base (bass) upon which the remaining 18 musicians layered their respective parts. Every day Seth or mixing engineer Thomas Bergeron created a new mix to reflect the growing tapestry of sound, sending the updated backing track to the next musician. ----- RECORDING DATE: Musician, instrument (City, STATE) 7/26/20: Aaron D. An important catalyst for my piece is the 1960’s musical movement known as Indeterminacy, and in particular, Terry Riley’s groundbreaking work, In C. Marked by great flexibility in terms of duration, dynamics, instrumentation, and many other parameters, In C serves as a wonderful source of inspiration for anyone seeking pathways to create adaptable music. It is to Mr. Riley that I have dedicated the present piece.” -Frank Ticheli ----- Special Thanks to Dana Lynne Varga Mixed and Mastered by Thomas Bergeron http://www.ThomasBergeronMusic.com Video Editing & Graphic Design by Ray Kingston, Earthtone Digital Lab / @raykingstonmusic © 2020 Temporal Displacement Orchestra Seth Adams, Artistic Director
