Here’s one of the Oldest temple of Lord Sri Anantha Padmanabhaswamy, located in Padmanabham mandal, in Visakhapatnam district. It is estimated that this temple is over 600 hundred years old. It is not only the Oldest temple in this area but also located on a Hill Top at a very high altitude. To reach the Hilltop you have to Climb around 1300 steps, and that was the only way, until Recently a road has been made available. Though it hasn’t become a pucca road yet, it is still manageable , however, it is not recommended as the path is very rugged, uneven and there are no road barriers. Anyways In addition to the 600 year old Sri Anantha Padmanabhaswamy temple, Padmanabham is also Famour for several other historic events. One of it is, The Battle of Padmanabham, The battle or war of Padmanabahm took place on the 10 July 1794. The Battle was between the British Led by Colonel Pendergast and their team sent by the Governor of Madras, John Andrews and The Rajah of Vizianagaram kingdom “Pusapati Vijayarama Gajapathi Raju”. As the Rajah’s refused to Pay tax to British & also opposed their Governance lead to a warbattle between them. This Battle between the Britishers and kings of the vijayanagaram at padmanabham was considered to be one of the early battles for independence of the country from foreign rulers. The Battle lasted for an Hour and a half , At that time The British were well equipped with weaponry, whereas the Rajah’s didn’t …The British troops eventually defeated the Vizianagaram army and the king died in the battle. It’s a very significant historic incident 6with a very sad ending.
